Scott Hosmer(26:17) and Sheila Hodges(32:45) paved the way on the new course
of the traditional Labor Day run. The general opinion was that some dignity
had been restored to this race by the Bangor Parks & Recreation Dept and SUB5
Track Club. The traffic control did exist this year and two water stops have
been added. SUB5 managed the registration, finish line and results.
Ed Rice presented a trophy to Dave Farley the winner of the first two Labor
Day races. Scott Hosmer won the Bob Hillgrove trophy as first male finisher
and Shiela Hodges won the Robin Emery trophy for first female finisher.
1998's race will include showers!!!! as well as all the other facilities -
tell your running buddies the Labor Day Race is back on it's feet and would
love to have a few more of you join in on next year's race - after all this
is the second oldest race in the State of Maine - show some respect to our
running heritage and support this race.
